Type specimen for Walton Legacy: a typeface I designed as an homage to Walton from the Cleveland Type Foundry (designed by Henry Schuenemann).
The original Walton font along with several others designed by Mr. Schuenemann were described by his peers as having 'a certain lightness and delicacy that is pleasing". In 2022, after a few weeks of study in paleography and typography, plus several trips to Providence Public Library, I designed Walton Legacy, a display typeface based on the basic structures of Walton, while also inspired by elements from a set of condensed letter hands and typefaces throughout history: the Anglo-Saxon runic texts, rustic capitals, textura and others. Through designing this particular font, I wanted to create a working method that's paying homage to typgraphic history in itself.
